This weekend, we’re stepping away from the sanding blocks, spray guns and workshop dust for a day out at Total Retro, and we’re not going empty-handed.
One of the cars we recently completed at FH Motorbody is heading into the Show and Shine competition: a bright red Mk2 Volkswagen Jetta that came through our workshop for a full respray including the engine bay.
And yes, we are very much going to stand near it like proud parents at a school play, pretending to be casual while absolutely checking if people are looking at the paintwork.
A Classic Mk2 Jetta Brought Back to Life
There is something special about older Volkswagens. They have that proper boxy, simple, no-nonsense look that modern cars keep trying to reinvent with 47 fake vents and headlights shaped like an argument.
This Mk2 Jetta came to us for more than just a quick tidy-up. It had a full body preparation process, surface correction, primer work, masking, paintwork and refinishing, including the engine bay. That matters on a classic car build because the details are what separate a proper job from a “looks alright from across the road” job.
The finished result is a clean, sharp, bright red Jetta with fresh paintwork that really suits the shape of the car. It is simple, bold and exactly the sort of thing that belongs at a retro show.
Why Total Retro Is the Perfect Place for It
Total Retro is all about celebrating older cars, bikes, trucks, scooters, BMX, music, style and the kind of motoring culture that gets people talking in car parks for three hours without anyone realising they are hungry.
That is what makes it such a good setting for this Jetta. It is not just a car with fresh paint. It is part of that whole retro scene: old-school Volkswagen lines, proper classic car character and a finish that shows how much difference good bodywork and paint preparation can make.
For us, this is the fun side of the job. The long hours in the workshop, the prep work, the sanding, the masking, the awkward corners, the engine bay details, the panels that need just one more pass because apparently cars enjoy testing human patience. All of that becomes worth it when the car is out in the real world and people get to enjoy it.
Come and Show the Jetta Some Love
If you are heading to Total Retro this weekend, keep an eye out for the red Mk2 Jetta in the Show and Shine competition.
Come have a look, take a photo, have a chat, and show the car some love. Whether you are into classic Volkswagens, full resprays, retro cars, modified cars, or just appreciate a clean bit of paintwork, it would be brilliant to see people giving the Jetta the attention it deserves.
We know how much work went into this one, and seeing it parked up among other retro cars is exactly what makes the job feel alive.
Full Resprays, Classic Car Paintwork and Bodywork at FH Motorbody
At FH Motorbody, we carry out professional vehicle bodywork repairs, car resprays, classic car paintwork, accident damage repair, welding, rust repair and restoration work.
This Mk2 Jetta is a good example of the kind of work we love doing: taking a vehicle with character and giving it the finish it deserves. From preparation to paint, every stage matters.
If you are restoring a classic car, building a modified project, refreshing tired paintwork or thinking about a full vehicle respray, we can help bring the car back to life properly.
See You at Total Retro
We’ll be at Total Retro this weekend, probably somewhere near the Jetta, trying not to look too emotionally attached to fresh red paint.
Come and say hello, check out the car, and give it a bit of support in the Show and Shine competition.
Because after all the prep, paint and late-workshop effort, nothing beats seeing a finished car out where it belongs: among other people who understand why an old Volkswagen can make grown adults grin like idiots.
See you at Total Retro. Come show the Jetta some love.
